An evidence-based prevention program that uses personality targeted interventions to promote mental health and delay substance use among teens. PreVenture workshops are designed to help adolescents learn useful coping skills, set long term goals and channel their personality towards achieving them.
Dr. Patricia Conrod's research has demonstrated that personality factors can be highly predictive of who goes on to develop problems with alcohol and substance misuse. The PreVenture program was developed by Dr. Conrod as a means to help adolescents learn how to manage the characteristics in their personalities that could put them at risk. Multiple randomized controlled trials conducted in Canada, Australia and the U.K., form the evidence-base showing the significant effect the PreVenture program has in reducing and/or preventing mental health and substance use problems.
The PreVenture program encompasses over 20 years of research and several research projects involving the PreVenture program are underway across the globe.
If you are a mental health practitioner, counsellor, teacher, social worker or prevention specialist, you can become a licensed PreVenture facilitator and/or trainer and bring this unparalleled program to your community.
Our expert trainers travel globally to train facilitators and/or trainers and as of 2020 online training sessions are now available. In keeping with the needs of youth, we have also recently developed an online delivery system for the program. We offer 3 levels of certification, Low and High Fidelity Facilitator training and PreVenture Trainer training. Please visit the preventure.ca website for more information.
